A Look into Uphill Vineyards

Beth and Ira Rosenthal own Uphill Vineyards and make small lot wines from both well-known and uncommon organic estate grapes grown in the high-elevation vineyard they planted in Fiddletown in 2007. We produce both single varietal wines - Cabernet Sauvignon, Primitivo, Tempranillo and Tannat - as well as out-of-the-ordinary red blends, like TnT, a Tannat/Tempranillo blend, and the Red Duke, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc.

Our winemaking philosophy is that good grapes are vital in making good wines. You can’t make great wine if the fruit isn’t up to par. We think that the fruit should reflect what’s happened in a particular growing season and proceed carefully to let the grapes speak. Our minimalist approach to making the wine means that we do not manipulate our wines but we let them develop and we barrel and bottle age longer than most wineries. Our wines take a relatively long time to mature; we don’t release them until we think that they are ready to drink, even if it means holding them for years. We age them so you don’t have to.

Visit our tasting room at 46 Main Street (next to the theatre) in Sutter Creek to try our wines.
