Just off the main hub of Sutter Creek, Eureka Street may seem like an alley at first. Look more closely and you’ll soon discover the street opens up into quaint boutiques and oodles of history with the Knight Foundry just at the end. In the middle of it all, you’ll find Feist Wines.
The Ambience
Walking into the tasting room you’ll enter a large outdoor area sitting under a pergola full of lush greenery and wrap around porch. Feist Wines celebrates the history of the 150 year old tasting location - originally a Western saloon - with rustic touches such as barn wood window frames and vintage posters. An eclectic mix of tables and chairs are scattered throughout for guests as they enjoy live music while feasting on farm to fork pizza and wine.
The Story
Husband and wife, Anthony and Susan Feist, moved from Berkeley to Amador County in 2003. With three kids and two dogs in tow, they discovered an unknown premium wine region. Anthony worked at Terre Rouge in Plymouth before becoming a chef at his mother’s business, the Imperial Hotel in Amador City, where Susan also helped out.
Adding another baby and guarded by a new dog and two cats, Feist Wines founded their winery in 2011 with baby number five soon on the way.
Today they produce award winning wines, sourcing grapes from a variety of vineyards in Amador and El Dorado counties for their Feist and Noble Ranch labels. Their 2016 Barbera was just rated 95 points and won a gold medal at the California State Fair.
More Than Wine
On Friday nights starting at 6pm, they offer three farm to fork wood fired pizzas and gourmet desserts. On Thursday through Sunday, guest can also enjoy artisan cheese and charcuterie plates from 11am-5pm.
Rain or shine, Feist Wines hosts live music every Friday night. From Jazz to Americana, even special appearances by grammy winners, such as Sean Watkins and Gill Landry, there’s always a serenade.
In fact, the Feist charm has attracted so many new visitors and returning fans that new plans are in the works to periodically host prix fixe dinners and special events. Guests who prefer to make a weekend of it can also book a stay at one of the two guest suites right above the tasting room!
